Lansdowne Park / Sylvia Holden Park, Ottawa, Ontario- KAP 2013-31
June 18, 2013.
After much deliberation, consultation and municipal politics, Lansdowne Park, not far from Ottawa's downtown core, is being redeveloped. Structures such as the Aberdeen Pavilion (aka the Cattle Castle) are heritage and are being preserved in place. Other buildings are being relocated (literally moved) to accommodate the new design. There have been neighbourhood protests over tree cutting in a neighbourhood park. But in the end, the project moves forward. This session was done to document the work in progress with low-level aerial photography. I located myself in one of the two baseball diamonds in Sylvia Holden Park, next to the dog park and alongside the Queen Elizabeth Parkway and the Rideau Canal.
I previously did an aerial session in the spring of 2008 when I was at liberty to walk around the parking lot to do my work. You can view these images in my KAP 2008-21: Lansdowne Park, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. May 2, 2008 gallery.
This time I thought it best to operate from off site, getting some broader perspectives. I also include photos of the Rideau Canal and the adjacent part of the Glebe community of Ottawa, not to mention myself standing in the baseball diamond in Sylvia Holden Park.
Here is more information on Lansdowne Park.
These photographs were taken using a remote-controlled camera suspended below a kite line (Kite Aerial Photography - KAP).
