Pinhey's Point, Ottawa River - KAP 2012-7
April 22, 2012.
This was my fifth kite aerial photography session at Pinhey's Point. I had 2 main objectives on this outing. The first was to shoot a vertical format image of the house showing a certain pathway in the foreground. In the end the image obtained was not from a high enough perspective so I may try to revisit this. The idea is to develop a poster and magazine cover from this shot. My second objective was to add some pictures of St. Mary's Church to my portfolio. Since the Church is on private property I have not previously had the opportunity but on this occasion access was given to me. St. Mary's Church is adjacent to the park and is presently being considered for designation as a heritage property. Coincidentally an interment was scheduled at the graveyard for later that day.
I was met there by a Flickr.com contact Jason Office who wanted to see how KAP is done (and undone). I had the gear snagged in a tree for awhile but managed to clear it after 5 minutes with no damage done. I did warn Jason that "stuff" happens when I have an audience. Murphy's Law chooses such moments.
The Pinhey's Point Foundation is a group which has indicated an interest in my photography with the prospect of doing a demonstration and photo display during the 2012 season (photo display June 17 to September 3; demo day likely August 12th). Thus, I have incentive to return from time to time.
Pinhey's Point is on the Ontario side of the Ottawa River, just upstream from Ottawa (Kanata) near the small village of Dunrobin. It is an 88 acre heritage site administered by the City of Ottawa. For more information visit the Pinhey's Point website
