Playa Tejoncito, Huatulco, Mexico - KAP 2008-4
January 27, 2008.
Huatulco is on the Pacific Coast of Mexico in the south part of the country in Oaxaca State. The coastline generally faces to the south, not the west as the coast nears towards Central America. Towards the Eastern part of Huatulco is Residencial Conejos, a residential community. At the foot of the community lies Playa Tejoncito. This is the name of the beach, not a resort. This beach was until a few years ago a public access beach. Recently private development has made this into a pay-per-use beach which is a contentious issue with a number of the other residents. Nevertheless it is still a reasonable access fee (50 pesos - roughly $5 Canadian) for anyone staying at Agua Azul La Villa (the B&B up the road where we stayed). A 15 minute hike over the point will get you to a free, almost deserted beach, Playa Arena, which was the subject of KAP 2008-3. The B&B can be seen in several of the images in this gallery. More on Agua Azul in KAP 2008-6.
