Aerial photos of the Ottawa River on display at the offices of Ottawa Riverkeeper.
Nov 20, 2012 to approx. May 31, 2013.
I'm a photographer living in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I have particular interests in travel photography and kite aerial photography (KAP). Like most photographers though, I'll photograph whatever catches my eye.
Many of my images are licensed through stock agencies. Please see Rob Huntley Photography - STOCK for more information. Most images can be purchased on the website. However, download sales of some images are blocked since they are available for exclusive licensing through Getty Images or else they are similars. Please contact me if you encounter difficulties in purchasing any image on my website.
In 2008 I began a new photographic adventure, Kite Aerial Photography (KAP). KAP provides the opportunity to obtain low-altitude aerial photographs that cannot be achieved shooting from an aircraft. Thus, KAP can be done at lower cost and the images obtained are unique. Sacrifices are made in terms of hands-on-camera control of composition and other artistic variables, but I find that the rewards are very satisfying and doing the photography is exciting and (usually) fun. I say usually because there are hazards such as overpowering winds and cold temperatures - and let's not forget that kites need wind and in winter, wind equals "wind chill". But photographers often put themselves through certain trials in order to get something special and personally I enjoy flying a kite in preference to sitting poised over an animal's burrow for 5 hours (I do like nature photography but there's a limit for me). With kite aerial photography, new perspectives on subjects and scenes that I have lived beside most of my life are suddenly made visible by launching the camera to new vantage points. Take a peek at my KAP galleries while you are here.
I learned a lot about photography in general from Bryan Peterson's book on Exposure. I highly recommend it: Understanding Exposure: How to Shoot Great Photographs with a Film or Digital Camera. He has written several other books and I've read Learning to See Creatively: Design, Color & Composition in Photography
which I also find useful. If you are a beginner or progressing photographer, the book on Exposure is the one to get first.
My favourite photography magazines are Photo Life (Canadian) and Practical Photography (UK). (They publish two magazines - click on Practical Photography.) I subscribe to Photo Life. Practical Photography is imported from the UK and is expensive off-the-shelf here in Canada but find it worthwhile to buy occasionally.
Purchasing Images: You may purchase downloads, prints or merchandise directly from this website. Please note that when you click on "Buy Photo" above any image, there are usually three tabs near the top to select from: Prints, Merchandise, or Downloads. Sales are managed by SmugMug, a US based site, so prices are in US dollars. Postage charges are additional for prints and products. My copyright watermark is removed in the purchased version. With only a few exceptions, prices are standard throughout the gallery.
A number of my images are licensed exclusively by Getty Images and other images may be considered as "similars" and therefore I am not at liberty to sell them directly from my website. These have a link in the caption area to the appropriate place on the Getty Images
website where the image can be licensed (click on the "Getty Images Portfolio" in the menu above for examples).
You may find an image which is not for sale. This means that the image is:
If there is no explanation under the image about why it is not for sale, please get in touch and I will provide an update and directions for purchase if/when available.
Additional images in low-resolution format can be seen on Flickr. If you wish to buy any of the images found there and they are not on RobHuntley.ca please send a message and I will upload the large file image to this site. Also, I have years and years worth of images taken long before I managed a website. I hope to gradually bring the better ones into the galleries but it will take time. So please don't hesitate to ask if you're looking for something specific.
