Gatineau Park : Gatineau Park. These images were taken during various hikes in Gatineau Park. One interesting subject which is only about 1 km walk from the nearest parking lot is Willson's Ruins which the ruins of Thomas "Carbide" Willson's Fertilizer Plant deep in the heart of a hardwood forest in Gatineau Park. The first image in the series, that of the ruins and the waterfall amongst the fall foliage, was published in the 2009 Rotary Club of Ottawa calendar.

Pinhey's Point : Pinhey's Point I have done a number of aerial photography sessions at Pinhey's Point. I've also had occasions doing "terrestrial" ground-level images. So this gallery is a mix of those shots plus a few of the aerial shots to give an overall impression of the heritage property and park. Note the links below that lead to more extensive aerial coverage of Pinhey's Point. The scenery, the solitude, the atmosphere ... these are all good reasons for visiting Pinhey's Point. However my further incentive in being there is that the Pinhey's Point Foundation is facilitating my having a photographic exhibit there during the 2012 season. There may also be an opportunity to particpate in one of their activity weekends by demonstrating kite aerial photography to visitors. I hope the wind is blowing but nevertheless I'm sure I can convey the message by showing the equipment. Pinhey's Point is on the Ontario side of the Ottawa River, just upstream from Ottawa (Kanata) near the small village of Dunrobin. It is an 88 acre heritage site administered by the City of Ottawa. For more information visit the Pinhey's Point website. Access to the point itself is restricted for environmental reasons. I winter though, when the ice is solid, you can snowshoe or ski around the point. Therefore some of these photographs were taken from vantage points that would only be accessible by boat in the summer. Upper Canada Village - Alight at Night : Upper Canada Village - Alight at Night.Upper Canada Village has been a summer tourist destination for decades. It is located near Morrisburg, about 1 1/4 hours drive from Ottawa. For a number of years recently, Upper Canada Village has been open for about 5 weeks each winter (end of November to early January) for their Alight at Night festivity. In their words: "Bundle up for an evening stroll around the Village, and see heritage buildings all magically lit, with over a QUARTER MILLION lights … a true winter wonderland!" Robert O. Pickard Environmental Centre (ROPEC) : The images were produced to assist Ottawa Riverkeeper which is a non-profit environmental group that I support with photography. I accompanied Ottawa Riverkeeper on a tour of the ROPEC facility. A few days afterwards, I took a series of aerial photos from the Potvin Fields adjacent to the water treatment facility. These aerial photos were taken using kite aerial photography (KAP). Additional KAP images from this session can be viewed in my KAP 2008-45 gallery.
