Victoria Island, Ottawa River - January 22, 2012

This session was during an outing of the Camera Club of Ottawa to Victoria Island. Victoria Island is in the middle of the Ottawa River, in the heart of downtown Ottawa.

Despite little wind, I was keen to give KAP a try today as I had outfitted myself with a new camera, a Panasonic Lumix GF2. The camera performed well but the wind did not. Most of the morning the camera hung from my hand just a foot above the ground. I was using autoKAP to keep the weight of the rig low. The FLED kite was flying but the wind was not sufficient to lift the camera. From about 90 minutes with the rig attached, I only managed about 2 minutes of aerial photography. I had hoped with the easterly wind direction that I would get some shots of the Chaudiere Falls from a central location just downstream. However, I ended up with a couple of shots of the river, much further downstream and a few shots of camera club members waiting to see results. Maybe next time!
